General Description of Position

The Veterinary Technician shall be the doctor’s right hand assistant, competent to do a variety of medical procedures under his/her direct and indirect supervision.  The Veterinary Technician shall be immediately available and responsive to the doctor’s needs during working hours, and shall be sufficiently self-driven to perform his/her ordinary and necessary duties without being reminded.

Job Requirements/Skills/Physical Demands

An employee in this position must be trained in medical procedures and animal restraint, able to work on his or her feet all day, and lift a 50 pound animal.  He or she must also be able to assist in surgery, intubate, induce, and monitor gas anesthesia, perform x-ray procedures and laboratory tests including fecals, and perform dentals independently.

VETERINARY ASSISTANT JOB DESCRIPTION

General Description of Position

The Veterinary Assistant assists the veterinarians with office visits, takes care of the everyday needs of pets in the hospital ward and boarding Pet Spa, and maintains the hospital facility in a clean and neat condition. 

Job Requirements/ Skills/ Physical Demands

An employee in this position must have a sense of caring for animals, be able to lift 50 pounds, walk dogs of up to 130 pounds, work on feet all day, and read and understand English.

 

Reports to: Pet Spa Manager and Assistant Manager(s), and Veterinary Technician Supervisor

Essential Functions

 

·        Provide compassionate care for pets

·        Restrain pets for veterinarians and technicians

·        Assist in the taking of x-rays

·        Monitor and collect urine and fecal samples as needed

·        Monitor, record, and report physical signs of hospitalized/boarded pets

·        Clean cages, runs, Pet Spa area and/or hospital facilities, including exam rooms, treatment room, exotics and isolation area, employee lounge, bathrooms and doctor’s office

·        Maintain reception area in a neat and sanitary condition

·        Provide clean bedding, water and litter pans for pets

·        Feed hospitalized/boarded pets as needed
