Professional Writing Tutors (Educational Assistant)


HOURS PER WEEK: Part-Time, Varies up to 17 hours per week, Monday through Friday

MINIMUM SALARY: $22.62 per hour

The Academic Success Center Tutoring Program seeks creative and knowledgeable part-time Professional Writing Tutors. The Professional Tutor provides tutoring support to students in GED, developmental English, college-level English, and other courses requiring written work. The goal of tutoring is to help increase studentsí ability and confidence with their writing skills.


Associateís degree in English or a related field, in addition to one to two years of related experience


Candidates must demonstrate experience in tutoring and/or teaching writing, ability to provide clear and concise explanations to help students improve their writing, strong time management, organizational and communication skills, ability to work one on one with students of varying levels of writing skills, and ability to work with students, staff, and faculty of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, racial and ethnic backgrounds, including those with different levels of academic preparation and varying physical and learning abilities.


Preference will be given to candidates with a Bachelorís degree in English or a related field.


Under the direction of the Director of Academic Success Center, the incumbent is accountable for tutoring/assisting students with written work, encouraging students to develop a systematic approach to studying that will serve them throughout their education, maintaining ongoing communication with and between students, faculty, coordinators and Director, attending training sessions and meetings, and performing other duties consistent with the position of a Professional Tutor.


Non-Credit ESL Certified Instructors

Degree requirements for the above, hours per week and salary vary depending on the requirements of the position.

Part-Time Adjunct Lecturers

On-line and On-Ground part time day, evening, and weekend instructors are needed to teach credit courses in the following disciplines:

Biology, Chemistry, English, Veterinary Technology, Computer Science,
Early Childhood Education, Graphic Arts

The ideal faculty candidate holds a Masterís Degree in the relevant discipline or closely related field and one or more years of successful college-level teaching experience. Experience working with online delivery methods such as Blackboard, familiarity with the integration of educational technology into curriculum, overall computer literacy and awareness of current issues and pedagogical practices that have an impact on the discipline are preferred. Applicants who do not meet the minimum qualifications as stated are encouraged to put in writing precisely how their background and experience have prepared them for the responsibilities of the position and by providing appropriate references. Exceptions to the degree requirements may be made for compelling reasons.

Compensation: $ 1,337 to $ 1,447 per credit hour

Part-Time Nurse Aide Instructor

Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse needed for per diem classroom and clinical instruction in our nurse aide training program. A minimum one year of recent experience working in a long term care facility required. Experience supervising and/or teaching nursing assistants preferred. These are temporary 6-13 week assignments, day or evening shifts and include some Saturdays.

Part-Time Educational Assistants

Interpreters for the Deaf; Guest Lecturers in various disciplines; ESL & GED certified Instructors; Tutors.

Non-Credit Instructors

Instructors for non-credit programs in areas such as business, computer science, MS Office, engineering, manufacturing, green technologies, blueprint reading, CNC, shop math, measurement, GD & T, ToolingU, management, team building, allied health, phlebotomy, workplace communications and ethics.
