![]() HOLISTIC STUDIES
Northwestern Connecticut Community College, Division of Continuing Education, is committed to interpreting and delivering the many forms of holistic health into an academic context. The history and practices of diverse modalities of health and wellbeing, some derived from ancient healing traditions and others from modern technology, all bring a substantial and respected body of knowledge to the health and academic arena. Our mission is to inform both the practitioner and consumer of the kinds of holistic health services that exist and with the help of experts, enhance knowledge and understanding through educational programs and hands-on training. WHAT IS HOLISTIC HEALTH? Holistic Health is concerned with the health and wellbeing of the whole person - mind, body, spirit and environment - in dynamic balance and interdependence. The study of Holistic Health can enhance the inherent healing ability of each individual and empower people through principles and skills that enable them to take greater responsibility for their personal development, healing and health. WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM THESE PROGRAMS? Since health is a concern for everyone, almost anyone can derive benefit from our holistic health programs. Holistic health is a rapidly expanding field and those in the health professions - nurses, physicians, pharmacists, health educators, physical therapists, occupational therapists, nutritionists, counselors and others - can greatly expand their understanding of human health and thereby enrich both their own lives and their ability to provide health services. Individual holistic health courses can also benefit students and others in the community who wish to learn holistic self-care approaches for stress reduction, personal growth, healing and health.
